When you lay down to sleep do you ever think
about who will respond to your call for help? At Holiday time, when
you're with family and friends, who will respond to your call for
help?
The volunteer firefighters of the Kuttawa Fire
Department are there for you! Holiday or not, day or night, they
respond to your call for help without second thought. A friend, a
neighbor, an acquaintance, or a stranger they may be. One thing for
sure, regardless of what they are to you, they are there for you; a
group of ordinary people who do extra- ordinary things. People with
full time jobs, just like you, who feel the need to give their time
and risk their lives to protect and serve our community. A group of
people who know what sacrifice means: not being there for your kid’s
first ballgame, missing dinner with that special someone, not seeing
your little one’s first steps, missing Christmas at grandma’s, not
making church on Sunday morning, or missing that first day of vacation
because the pager goes off while you were packing. This is the life of
our volunteer firefighters. Juggling demands at work and home while
giving time to train and respond to their communities needs.
When you see a fire truck racing down the road,
take a moment and ask yourself: What did those firefighters give up to
be on that truck? Would I make the same sacrifice? The next time you
see that friend, neighbor, or acquaintance that you know is a
volunteer firefighter, take a moment to pat them on the back or shake
their hand and just say “THANKS!” Whatever you do, please support your
volunteer firefighters! The life or home they save may be yours!
